Delhi: Police suspect that the woman, whose partially-naked body was found near Rajghat, may have been gang-raped and murdered. A day after the body was recovered, police claimed that they have picked up shirt buttons, pieces of cloth, liquor bottles and other clues from the spot. According to a report in The Times of India, a few rickshaw-pullers and drug addicts from the area have been detained for questioning.
The woman was brutally murdered, strangulated, and her face crushed with a stone which the police recovered lying next to the body. There were bruises on the body which suggest that she was even dragged either during the struggle or after her murder. The identity of the victim has not been established yet. The face has been crushed and this is proving a big hurdle in the identification of the deceased.
She was about five feet tall with a wheatish complexion. She was wearing a soiled salwar suit, which was torn in the chest area, reports The Times of India.
The cause and time of the murder would be established only after the autopsy report. The body has been preserved at LNJP hospital. If nobody identifies and comes out to claim the body within 72 hours, the autopsy would be carried out.
According to the report, the woman was spotted entering the park with some youths. It appears the woman stayed at footpath near Rajghat. The youth, it appears, consumed liquor and then raped her. They made all efforts to kill her. The pieces of clothes and buttons recovered from the spot have been sent for forensic analysis.
