JAMMU: The 2nd Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu, has issued a ₹20,000 bailable warrant against the Investigating Officer (IO) namely DySP Bhagwan Dass who was IO of Special Investigation Team in the Channi Himmat firing case after he failed to appear before the court despite being informed to remain present. .

The case pertains to the August 21, 2025 firing at a physiotherapy centre in Sainik Colony in which 30-year-old Mehjabeen Akil Sheikh of Mumbai sustained bullet injuries and later died. The incident was initially projected as a road accident before subsequent investigation established firearm injuries.

Following alleged lapses in the initial probe, then SHO Channi Himmat Inspector Deepak Pathania, PSI Wasim Bhatti, then in-charge Police Post Sainik Colony, and PSI Rohit Sharma, the then IO, were suspended and attached to RPHQ Jammu.

Subsequently, the police department handed over the investigation of the case to Crime Branch with constitution of six-member, DySP-led SIT to investigate the killing and examine the role of the suspended officers.

Reports also alleged that the physiotherapy centre had been used for “unfair practices” for several months, with claims of possible knowledge or connivance of some serving and retired police personnel. These allegations are part of the wider investigation.
