JAMMU: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Enforcement Wing on Thursday demolished six rolling shutters installed illegally in a residential building at Sunjawan, Ward No. 74, in an apparent attempt to convert the premises for commercial use.
With the assistance of police contingent, the demolition was led by JMC Enforcement Officer Harditya Singh Chib under the supervision of DC South, JMC, Amir Athar.
The action followed the detection of unauthorised structural alterations aimed at opening commercial activities by installing six Iron rolling shutters in a building meant for residential use.
The residents were complaining about imminent nuisance due to the opening of commercial activities in a residential area at large scale.
The civic body warned property owners against undertaking construction or commercial activities in violation of sanctioned land use and building permissions. It appealed to citizens to obtain requisite approvals from the JMC before carrying out construction or changing the use of any premises.
The Corporation also cautioned residents against falling prey to fake Khilafwarzi inspectors and middlemen allegedly collecting money by promising immunity from action against illegal constructions and unauthorised commercial establishments.
The JMC said such persons have no authority to offer protection or regularise violations. Citizens were urged to report suspicious demands to the concerned police station and avoid dealing with unauthorised intermediaries.
The latest action underscores the civic body’s continuing crackdown on illegal commercialisation of residential properties and violations of building by-laws in Jammu city which are multiplying at an alarming proportion.
