SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has intensified its drive against unauthorised constructions across the city, sealing a four-storey commercial building in Batamaloo on Friday, following the new Commissioner’s firm stance against rampant building violations.
The building, located at S.D. Colony, Batamaloo, was found to have been constructed without valid building permission. It comprises two shops on the ground floor.
The sealing action was carried out by an SMC Enforcement team led by the Enforcement Officer, along with the concerned Ward Officer, with assistance from Batamaloo Police. The action was executed under Sealing Order No. SMC/ENF/16475-85 dated November 3.
Since assuming charge, the new Commissioner has taken a serious view of unauthorised constructions and directed strict enforcement of building regulations, signalling a tougher approach towards violations.
Reliable sources in the SMC told JK Global News that the instant sealing action is only the beginning. The authorities have identified unauthorised constructions following physical verification across all wards, and a large-scale crackdown is expected to begin shortly.
Residents have welcomed the action, appreciating the Commissioner and the Enforcement Wing for acting against the unauthorised structure.
