Regarding Director Colleges, neither there is any official confirmation on grant of extension in tenure to incumbent nor the government so far constituted committee for selection of successor. However, reliable sources in HED said, “Soon, the government is initiating exercise for selection of new Director Colleges”.

Though there are several contenders in race for this prestigious post but the front runners in race includes Prof.S.P.Saraswat, Principal GCW, Parade (Nodal Principal Jammu region), Prof. Gitanjali Rana, Principal GDC, Ramgarh Prof. Khurshid Khan, Principal Islamia College, Prof Sheikh Aijaz Basher, Principal GDC Amar Singh College (Nodal Principal, Kashmir region) and Prof. Farooq, Principal GDC Bomai.

Incumbent Director Colleges Dr Yasmeen Ashai was appointed in July 2021for a period of two years and her term expired on July 2023. The selection has been made by six members committee constituted for the first time in May 2021 by General Administrative Department (GAD) which was headed by Administrative Secretary of HED.

Interestingly, the office of Director Colleges for the last three term is headed by academicians from Kashmir region as none from Jammu region was found “eligible” for the coveted post in HED.
