JAMMU : With an aim to ensure e-rickshaws used to operate as per laid down norms for the safety of commuters and road users, the traffic police on Wednesday launched a special drive under the supervision of SSP Traffic, City Faiesel Qureshi and Addl SP Rajpaul Singh.
During the drive, teams led by DySp Traffic (city), Bikram Kumar, DySP Traffic (South), Farhat Nishat and DySP (Rural), Satish laid special nakas at various locations.
They verified documents including driving license, insurance and registration certificate of e-rickshaws and penalized those plying in violation. During checking 106 e-rickshaws were challaned and 16 were seized for operating on road without requisite documents.
On the occassion, the Traffic police city Jammu also senstlitized all the e rickshaw drivers to follow the route allocated to them and abide by the traffic rules besides refrain from overcharging and over loading.
They were also asked to affix number plate and complete all necessary formalities with Regional transport office before plying on the routes.
It is worth to mentioned here that recently launched eco friendly e -rickshaws have preferably become first choice of citizens as it charged very low fare as compared to three wheelers who are notorious for charging exorbitant fares in flagrant violation of fare fixed by the government with impunity.
However, the administration has been receiving regular complaints of over charging and rash driving against e-rickshaws which especially operate by untrained drivers thus promoting the traffic police to act against them.
