JAMMU: Merely for the sake of undue financial benefits, the concerned officials of UEED prefer to shut their eyes closed towards the sub standard work going on in repairing of lanes by the contractor after laying of sewarage pipes in Ustad Mohalla.
Aggrieved over the repairing of lanes in poor manner, the residents blamed the officers of UEED especially concerned JE Ashok Koul for improper repairing of lanes with poor quality concrete instead of refixing the tiles on their original places.
“Only two years ago the Jammu Municipal Corporation has spend crores of rupees in laying of interlocking tiles in Ustad Mohalla” said Subash. However, the erring contractor after digging the lanes for laying of sewarage pipes now refused to repair the lanes by refixing the interlocking tiles which are lying useless along the sides of drains, added Subash.
Even the Councillor of the Mohalla Suneet Raina also expressed his strong annoyance over the way the UEED is repairing the lanes damaged by them during laying of sewarage pipes besides rendering tiles worth lakhs which is nothing short of deliberate damage to the property of JMC.
In most irresponsible manners, the contractor repaired the dig out part of the lanes with sub standard concrete mixture which will washed away in the first rainfall of monsoon, he added.
Another residents namely Waheed Khan blamed that there is some setting between contractor and concerned JE otherwise the said contractor would not dare to repair the damaged portion of lanes with concrete mixture.
During the digging, the labourers have replaced the inter locking tiles in fit shaped and nearly 95 % of the tiles are in perfect shape. But strangely, the contractor instead of refixing these tiles on the damaged portion of lanes has dumped it along side the drains, said Waheed.
This is a deliberate damage of JMC property and the contractor need to be booked for wilfully rendering the JMC property worth lakhs as useless which now causing choking of drains, added Rajesh.
As per agreement, the UEED need to get repaired the lanes with same material which it was supporting before digging for laying of sewarage pipes, said a senior officer of UEED.
There is indeed something fishy between the contractor and concerned officers of UEED, he alleged.
Repairing the lanes by refixing the inter locking tiles which were replaced during digging is a times consuming and costly job. To maximise the benefits, the contractor choose easy way of repairing the damaged part with concrete in couple of hours, said another officer of UEED preferring anonymity.
Deliberately damaging and destroying the property of JMC is a serious crime, he added.
Surprisingly, when JKGN seeks view of concerned JE namely Ashok Koul on the issue, he said ” This can’t be happened and assure of personally looking into the matter”.
Strangely after sometime the contractor and supervisor start calling JKGN and tried to influence us by offering us share of booty from the organised loot of state exchequer going on the name of so called development.
