SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two police officers after trapping one of them while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 on behalf of his colleague in Srinagar.
According to the ACB, a written complaint was received alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, investigating officer in FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, had demanded illegal gratification for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
The complaint further alleged that Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat, posted at the same police station, was acting as an intermediary for the IO. Verification by the ACB prima facie established the allegation, following which FIR No. 12/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Section 61(2) of the BNS.
A trap was subsequently laid, during which Bhat was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant. The money was recovered in the presence of independent witnesses and Bhat was taken into custody, while PSI Karanjeet Singh was subsequently arrested as an alleged co-conspirator. The investigation is continuing.
