NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won three of the four key posts in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen clinched the Vice-President’s post.
ABVP’s Yash Dabas was elected DUSU President with 24,576 votes, defeating National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who polled 22,523 votes.
Deepanshu Shokeen, contesting as an independent candidate and a former NSUI member, won the Vice-President’s post with 30,615 votes. ABVP’s Ishu Maurya finished second with 16,910 votes.
ABVP’s Riya Chhawdi secured the Secretary’s post with 21,650 votes, while Lakshya Raj Singh, also from ABVP, won the Joint Secretary’s post with 16,615 votes.
The results mean that the Congress-affiliated NSUI failed to secure any of the four central-panel positions. The counting, held on Saturday after polling on September 18, was completed after 20 rounds.
The results were announced amid security arrangements on the North Campus. In accordance with Delhi High Court directions, winning candidates and supporters were asked not to hold victory rallies on or outside the university campus.
