INDORE: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday held his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Indore, drawing huge crowd of students and young people to the jam packed IDA ground near Regional Park.
The turnout came against the backdrop of a much larger registration figure. Congress had put the number of registrations for the event at around two lakh.
Gandhi interacted directly with students and heard their concerns on unemployment, recruitment delays, competitive examinations, paper leaks and the education system. Several students raised issues linked to pending examination results and government recruitment.
During the interaction, Rahul Gandhi argued that students should be encouraged to question the system and have greater opportunities in education and employment. He also criticised what he described as excessive concentration of decision-making power and alleged that the present system discourages independent questioning.
‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ is the fifth such student outreach programme led by Gandhi, following events in Kota, Dehradun, Prayagraj and Pune. The Indore programme was held amid elaborate security arrangements and several conditions imposed by local authorities.
