    Preservation of SPS heritage building Govt’s priority: Naem Akhtar

    SPS Central Lib to accommodate 1,10,000 books

    Srinagar: Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar today visited SPS Museum in Lal Mandi and SPS Central Library, M.A Road to review the progress of the ongoing construction works there.

    On his visit to SPS Museum, Akhtar asked the executing agency to expedite the ongoing works and complete all pending works at an earliest so that the Museum is made fully functional.

    While inspecting the old building of the SPS museum, the Minister said that the building itself has a great heritage value. Akhtar directed the officials that all the necessary measures should be taken to restore the glory of this building. “The preservation of this building will be my priority as it is of rich heritage value,” he said.

    Earlier, on his visit to SPS Central Library, the Minister reviewed the progress of construction work on the library building. He was informed that the construction works have been completed, however, the work on the construction of lifts is pending which will be completed soon.

    It was informed that the centrally placed library will accommodate about 1,10,000 books and it will have facilities like separate sections for children as well as elderly persons, in addition to students.

    Besides, the library will be fully air-conditioned and equipped with computer labs, meeting hall, art gallery, manuscript section, newspaper and magazine section along with other facilities.

    The building is being made at an estimated cost of Rs 32.15 crore with the total space of 55,239 square feet, which includes basement, ground floor and five floors.
