SRINAGAR : A viral video showing a senior IAS officer berating a woman JKAS officer during an official meeting has triggered a controversy in Jammu and Kashmir, with an employees’ body demanding a time-bound inquiry and action against anyone found responsible.
The video, circulating on social media, shows IAS officer Kumar Rajeev Ranjan confronting JKAS officer Beenish Wani, Assistant Director, Employment, Ganderbal, during a Mission YUVA review meeting.
IAS officer shouted “You are bloody shit. I can always talk to you like this…I am your boss.”, report The Tribune.
As per reports, the female officer reasonably tried her best to clarify on the matter under discussion in the meeting but was repeatedly snubbed.
The footage has sparked questions over workplace dignity and the treatment of women officers within official hierarchies. The controversy assumes added significance because the exchange reportedly occurred in a formal government review meeting.
The J&K Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) has strongly condemned the reported use of abusive language against Wani and sought an impartial, time-bound inquiry.
EJAC President Wajahat Hussain Durrani said differences during official proceedings must be handled professionally and that every government employee deserves respect, irrespective of rank or position.
The JKAS Fraternity has also sought an impartial probe and safeguards against any retaliatory action against the officer.
Meanwhile, the Labour and Employment Department in its clarification said selectively edited, ‘unverified’ video clips from the review meeting are circulating on social media without full context.
The Department reiterated that mutual respect, discipline and professional decorum are essential in official interactions and that provocative remarks and inappropriate language have no place in administrative engagements.
Expressing regret over the developments, it said circulation of selectively edited video may create a misleading impression and appealed to media and public to refrain from sharing unverified content.
