New Delhi: Ahead of critical no-confidence vote which the Narendra Modi government is facing in the Parliament, BJP President Amit Shah called up Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. Sena has been BJP’s ally in both Maharashtra and Union government, but is one of the strident critics of the Modi government. Shiv Sena has also declared that they will contest next elections separately.
However, Amit Shah even in the past has tried to reach out to grumbling ally Shiv Sena. He paid a visit to Uddhav Thackeray’s house recently as part of BJP’s outreach programme ahead of Lok Sabha elections. Now, Shah has called up Uddhav Thackeray requesting him to support the government in the no-confidence motion. The BJP is well placed to defeat the no-confidence motion but wants to avoid any potential face loss of allies voting with the opposition.
Speaking to news agencies, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that his party chief Uddhav Thackeray is yet to take a final call whether to vote in favour or against the motion. ,Raut said, “Everyone will come to know regarding the Shiv Sena’s decision on the no-confidence motion against the ruling government in the Lok Sabha tomorrow.”
Pointing fingers at the Centre for not fulfilling its promises made while coming to power, the Shiv Sena leader said, “Modi-led government failed to develop the economy in the past four years. If one looks closely, scores of farmers in the country are still reeling under agrarian crisis and are committing suicide.”He further added that the in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP has created an unhealthy atmosphere.Raut also asserted that a particular class has also emerged within the country against the ruling government for its failures in the recent years. He has also asked the Modi government to thoroughly discuss the issues raised by the Opposition in the House in the coming days.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had on July 18 accepted the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition parties. The discussion and voting on the motion will take place on July 20 in Lok Sabha, and on July 23 in Rajya Sabha
