BARAMULLA: A surprise inspection at Government Degree College (Boys), Baramulla, has exposed serious lapses in staff attendance, with nearly half of the employees, including Heads of Departments and teaching faculty, reportedly found absent from the institution well before the scheduled closing time.
Ironically, the glaring lapse in the college’s functioning appears to have escaped the attention of Director Colleges, Prof. Twinkle Suri, who has been stationed in Kashmir since assuming charge of her new assignment.
As per reports, the district administration Acting on inputs and complaints about premature departure by staff has ordered an inspection on Monday. The team headed by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Baramulla, conducting the exercise on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner.
The inspection, carried out during the early afternoon, reportedly found that around 50 per cent of the college staff, including HODs, Assistant Professors and Lecturers, had left the premises before the prescribed closing hours.
Taking note of the apparent violation of official working-hour norms, the administration has obtained biometric attendance records to establish the actual attendance position and identify those responsible.
The records are being examined, with further action expected under the applicable rules. The incident has brought institutional accountability and adherence to duty hours in a government-run higher education institution under scrutiny.
Speaking to JK Global News, College Principal Dr. Tasleema Bano confirmed that a team of the District Administration, comprising the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) and Tehsildar, conducted a surprise inspection of the institution and took away the attendance records for verification.
