NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over the ongoing Opposition campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Shah asked Gandhi to introspect over the Congress’ repeated electoral setbacks instead of blaming the Election Commission or SIR for the party’s losses. He questioned whether SIR had any role in the Congress defeat in the Gandhinagar civic polls and other recent elections.
The Home Minister said the Congress had been losing elections under Gandhi’s leadership and accused him of using SIR as an excuse to conceal the party’s failures.
Shah also hit back at the Opposition’s protest march and claims that it represented the wider public mood. He said participation by leaders and cadres of several parties could not establish Gandhi as the voice of the country.
Pointing to recent BJP victories, Shah said the results reflected continued public support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
He further warned Gandhi to prepare for another defeat in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, asserting that the NDA would return to power with a strong majority.
The remarks came a day after Gandhi and other Opposition leaders vowed to continue their campaign seeking action against the CEC and opposing SIR.
