Jammu: Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana has raised serious concern over the prolonged denial of stipends to MS/MD scholars of Government Ayurvedic Medical College (GAMC), Akhnoor, saying students should not be forced to remain on the road for months to receive money legitimately due to them.
Khatana said the students had approached him and narrated their ordeal, including the financial difficulties caused by the continued withholding of their stipends despite attending academic and clinical duties. He said the prolonged uncertainty was particularly distressing for postgraduate scholars who are simultaneously pursuing rigorous medical education and serving patients.
“I am deeply concerned over the continued denial of stipends to MS/MD students of Ayurveda College, Akhnoor, who have been protesting on the road for more than a month,” Khatana said, calling for immediate intervention and a time-bound resolution.
While narrating their take of woes, the students apprised MP that issue has remained unresolved for several months and denied stipends for around nine to ten months despite performing continuous emergency duties, clinical postings and extended shifts. These claims were also publicly raised by students in September.
Khatana urged the concerned authorities to release all pending stipends without further delay and ensure that students are not subjected to such hardship again.
He stressed that postgraduate medical students should be studying and treating patients—not protesting for their legitimate financial dues.
