Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) senior leaders and legislators including MLA Sopore and party Vice President, Haji Rasheed Dar, MLA Bandipora, Usman Majeed, MLA Devsar Mohammad Amin Bhat and Vice President and MLC G N Monga have issued following joint statement to the press.
The unabated killing of civilians in Kashmir valley is unfortunate and it should stop immediately. Security forces must exercise restraint while dealing with situation. The government also needs to explain as who are these ‘unidentified gunmen’ who have killed several civilians in the Valley in recent times.
The current volatile situation in Kashmir is the reason of the Centre having a non-existent policy for Kashmir and it is the opportunistic alliance between BJP and PDP which has pushed the state into a quagmire. The silence being maintained by Centre over the volatile situation in Kashmir is criminal as they lack any concrete policy.
The present situation is reminiscent of 1990’s. The Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP government in the state has failed on all fronts. The killings of civilians indicate that this government has failed in its constitutional duties to safeguard the lives of citizens. Besides, the hostile approach of Centre has badly damaged the socio-political scenario in the State.
The initiatives taken in Kashmir during the United Progressive Alliance’s 10-year rule have been reversed and washed away by the incumbent government due to which the situation in the state has turned serious. In 2010 when UPA government was ruling at the Center, it took several initiatives to calm down the situation in Kashmir. Then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singhji, UPA chairperson Madam Sonia Gandhji and AICC President Rahul Gandhiji were always concerned about the Kashmir situation. However, present government is least bothered about Kashmir situation.
When UPA was in power, whatever Dr Manmohan Singhji Madam Sonia Gandhiji and Rahul Gandhiji promised, it was delivered. BJP-led NDA government presents the achievements of previous UPA regime in a new packaging and claiming these as their own.
We express our heartfelt condolences with the families of the victims and appeal the youth to stop confronting security forces, as disturbances will not serve any purpose.
