JAMMU: Even as the officers of Food and Drugs Administration are shying to divulge details of defaulter establishments serving unhealthy food to customers, the teams of Jammu Municipal Corporation on Saturday raided various meat shops in Jammu city and seized large quantity of mutton which was unsafe for consumers consumption.
The action was initiated on the instructions of Commissioner, JMC, Rahul Yadav following numerous complaints from different quarters about sale of unhygienic mutton.
The team led by Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr. Sushil Sharma conducted inspection of several meat shops in the city to catch those doing the business by throwing to wind all norms of safe food.
As per reports, the JMC team inspected dozens of shops in Roop Nagar area and seized around 50 Kg unstamped mutton which was found unsafe for consumption of consumers and sold in unhygienic conditions.
The seized goods were immediately destroyed.
Sources in JMC said “Such raids will be conducted on regular basis throughout the city in the future as well. We have identified more areas and in the coming days, those playing with the health of the residents will not be spared”.
Those found selling unsafe mutton and chicken in flagrant violation of laid down food safety norms will also faced sealing, sources added.
