Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is camping in Karnataka ahead of the May 12 assembly polls, will today address four rallies in the state. BJP President Amit Shah is also in the poll-bound state and will addrress separate public programs.
As the campaigning for the election enters last phase, both the BJP and the Congress have intensified their efforts to connect with the votres. Modi will visit Chitradurga, Raichur, Jamakhandi and Hubli area to address election rallies.
While Congress is looking to retain Karnataka, the last big state in its kitty, the BJP is going all out to score a victory to realise Modi’s “Congress-mukt Bharat.”
Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who concluded the eighth leg of his campaign tour of Karnataka on Friday, today attacked the BJP on Twitter saying that “central to the RSS/ BJP fascist ideology, is that Dalits and Adivasis must continue to exist at the bottom rung of society.”
Karnataka is slated to witness a three-corner contest, involving the ruling Congress, the BJP and the H D Deve Gowda-led JD(S).
A total of 2,655 candidates – 2,436 men and 219 women – are left in the fray for the May 12 election for 224 Assembly seats in Karnataka. Counting of votes will take place on May 15. The contesting candidates include 224 from BJP, 222 from Congress and 201 from JD(S). Others are BSP 18, CPI 2, CPIM 19, NCP 14, registered unrecognised parties 800 and independents 1,155.
The process of filing of nominations had begun on April 17. While the last date for filing of nominations was April 24, scrutiny was on April 25.
