    Police Inspector booked for rape, intimidation

    In a startling development, an Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Jonesh Verma, has been booked allegedly for rape and intimidation following a complaint lodged by a woman, raising serious questions about accountability within the force.
    According to reports, FIR No. 27/2026 has been registered at the concerned police station under Sections 376(2)(c)- Rape by a police officer/public servant on a person in their custody or in the custody of a subordinate, Section 506-Criminal intimidation and Section 342-wrongful confinement.

    The complainant, a non local woman who came in contact with Inspector Jonesh Verma, posted in Udhampur. During course of interaction, the victim in her complaint alleged that he exploited by the officer when they met in a guest house at Rajbagh in Srinagar.

    Following serious allegations in the complaint, the police swiftly registered FIR against the police inspector and have assured the victim that due process will be followed as no one is above the law.

    The incident has sparked concern among civil society, with demands for a fair and transparent investigation. The police department, meanwhile, has reiterated its commitment to uphold justice and institutional integrity.
