SRINAGAR : In a significant operation, the State Investigation Unit (SIU) under the dynamic leadership of Special DGP (CID) R.R.Swain arrested two terrorists of HM which were absconding since May 1990 and were involved in killing of Mirwaiz Farooq.
Giving details, Swain said that the arrested terrorists have been identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat code Ajmal Khan s/o Habibullah Bhat r/o Solina Bala, A/P Azad Basti Natipora Srinagar and Zahoor Ahmad Bhat code Bilal s/o Late Mohamad Ramzan Bhat r/o Danderkhaw Batamalo Srinagar.
Among the five terrorists involved in Mirwaiz killing on 21 May, 2023, the two namely Abdullah Bangroo and Rehman Shigan had got killed in encounters and couldn’t face trial whereas Ayub Dar convicted for life imprisonment. The duo Javaid Bhat and Zahoor Bhat were absconding and hence escaped trial and finally arrested after 33 years of commiting crime, said special DGP (CID).
“The two had gone underground and during all these years were variously hiding in Nepal and Pakistan among other places before surreptitiously returning back to Kashmir few years ago. Maintaining a low profile, changing addresses and shifting residences, they avoided the gaze of law enforcement agencies”, he further said.
Both the terrorists handed over to CBI to face trial in a designated TADA court in Delhi.
