It was a welcome relief this morning to glance at the media reporting regarding our esteemed politicians who preside over our fate which we ourselves have shaped by way of casting ballot at the time of ritualistic elections. Democracy is government of the people, by the people and for the people while a sizeable number of these worthies are linked to 31 stone crushers spreading over the length and breadth of UT. As most of them have been named and shamed there is no need to magnify them repeatedly as there are many daily heaches giving sleepless nights to the down and out and a few right thinking whom it is difficult to locate.
Red letter day it was to see the ruckus and use of unparliamentary language hurled in a choicest mood. 29 were demanding apology for the onslaught while commoners need to be apologized as it is highly disturbing when a civilized conduct is reduced to tatters. Our young generation is being fed with something obnoxious and some may also go in for a repeat show as elders are likely to be emulated. Non issues are being raised and matters of life and death have taken a back seat. Shouting, blame game and gesticulating have become almost a daily feature in this colorful session. More of brickbats and less of meaningful conduct of official business. Donot bother about the wastage of tax payers money spent on proceedings. More weightage is being given to steal the limelight by way of select media footage that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Gone are the days when we used to watch purposeful democratic dialogue in a friendly spirit. Healthy criticism was a welcome treat and an educational exercise but the reverse is happening and shall continue to go on with more of nausea. It appears that we are heading towards a point of no return and lost in a messy wordy whirlpool. There is something wrong with our media managers too. Spicy stories are written and a critical analysis is missing in a majority of cases. Sensationalism sells while Sachh kei kharerdar bahut kam hein. Why not ponder for a while ? Why not set healthy precedents and conventions for our posterity? Readers, it is a tall order and not a cake walk.
