Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Centre, accusing it of maintaining silence over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during reported airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
According to news agency ANI, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister staged a protest, during which she burned posters of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, while holding placards in support of Khamenei.
Mufti said the incident has triggered widespread grief and anger among sections of people in India, particularly within the Shia Muslim and Iranian communities. She alleged that many who attempted to protest have been detained, including women.
Addressing reporters, Mufti said that for the past several days Iran has been under attack and that the killing of its top leader has only deepened public outrage. She questioned the Centre’s response, stating that the government in Delhi has neither condemned the strikes nor expressed sympathy with the people of Iran.
Later, expressing anger on X handle, Mehbooba asserted, “I stand in peace with those who stand in peace with you, and in opposition to those who oppose you, until the Day of Judgment.”
