WASHINGTON : US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington could take tougher action against Iran as efforts to end the months-long conflict remain stalled.
Trump said the United States had to “finish up” the war and would soon decide whether to pursue a diplomatic or more forceful course. His remarks came amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran, with negotiations apparently at an impasse.
Iran, meanwhile, has rejected the idea of a military solution, insisting that the conflict can only end through negotiations based on what it describes as justice and fairness.
The war, which began after US and Israeli military action against Iran in late February, has triggered repeated exchanges of strikes and raised concerns over regional stability and global energy supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a major flashpoint, with Tehran insisting it will maintain restrictions there until its demands are addressed.
The diplomatic deadlock has heightened fears that renewed military escalation could further destabilise an already volatile Middle East.
