New Delhi: Nirav Modi, who has escaped from India following the Punjab National Bank Fraud, is believed to have escaped to Brussels following reports that he was in London seeing political asylum from the United Kingdom.

According to a Times of India report, the Indian high commission in the UK was awaiting formal conformation of his presence in that country from the Theresa May-led government.

The diamond merchant, wanted in India’s biggest-ever banking scam, is said to be travelling in and out of the UK freely, possibly on a Singapore passport, not an Indian one.

On Monday, the CBI had requested Interpol for a red corner notice against Nirav Modi and his brother Nishal, a Belgian national. On Tuesday, a special court in Mumbai had issued a non-bailable warrant against the diamantaire and his family members.

Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) requested the Interpol to send a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against Nirav Modi’s brother Nishal.
