JAMMU: Chief Secretary, Arun Kumar Mehta endeavours to ensure zero tolerance towards corruption visibly lost its meaning and sanctity in Legal Metrology Department where the higher ups have turned nelson eyes towards corrupt practices adopted by some officials on the name of weigh measurement of FCI trucks and calibration of oil tankers.
Vide order No 3-LMJ of 2021 dated 15/09/2021, the Controller, Majid Jehangir Drabu have suspended an official namely Yougal Kishore posted in the office of Deputy Controller, Taximeter, SS labs and tanker lorries, Jammu after the JK Global News highlighted the news item with video pertaining to corrupt practices.
However, the authorities till date have not appointed any inquiry officer to ascertain the facts as on whose behalf the suspended official used to collect bribe money from transporters as well as owner of calibration point.
The suspended lower echelon official is a small pawn, who was just following the nod of his officer for earning few extra bucks as baksheesh, alleged LMD sources. The reputation earned over the decades by department of LMD in initiating countless consumers’ related initiatives in Jammu has been tarnished by some greedy officers in the last couple of years by encouraging and sheltering corrupt practices, alleged sources.
“The influence of corrupt officer on whose behalf Yougal Kishore used to collect bribe on daily basis can be understood from the fact that Chief Secretary Office is fully apprised of corrupt practices prevailing in LMD office Jammu on the name of calibration” said reliable sources.
Truck owners engaged with Food Corporation of India as well as Oil tankers while interacting with JKGN said “Our complaints against Jaideep Singh Sambyal, Assistant Controller are lying with the office of Chief Secretary as well as higher ups in LMD but its seems those desiring to establish kingdom of corruption in LMD, Jammu enjoys strong proximity with some black moles posted in the office of Chief Secretary or the higher ups n LMD are hand in gloves with corrupt officer”
Reliable sources in LMD revealed that hectic efforts are underway to hush up the matter of suspension of Yugal Kishore so as to save the officer on whose behest he used to collect the commission/bribe amount. “The officer under scanner for corrupt practices have engaged one former controller of LMD to influence higher ups in LMD as well Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs” alleged sources.
Repeated attempts to seek view point of Secretary Zubair Ahmed as well as Majid Jehangir Drabu, Controller, LMD J&K could not materialize as both the officers not responded to our watsapp mesages as well calls.
