JAMMU: In view of several complaints of overcharging from the customers, the enforcement team of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department today conducted surprise checking of shops engaged in selling of broiler chicken in Panjthirthi, Amphalla, Kacchi Chawni and Ustad Mohalla.
During checking the team found non display of rate list and were selling chicken at exorbitant rate. Consequently the team imposed penalty on defaulter shopkeepers and collect fine to the tune of Rs 2800 from eight chicken sellers.
In a stern warning to the chicken sellers in Jammu City, Vipan Bhagat, Assistant Director, Enforcement wing of CAPD said that more intense checking will be pursue on regular basis to implement rule of law among the chicken sellers and strict action will be taken against those found involved in fleecing the citizens and not displaying the rate list
The latest rate of chicken which was fixed by the CAPD is Rs 130 /kg for while chicken and Rs 200/Kg for dressed chicken.
He also appealed the public to apprise the department if they come across any shopkeeper selling chicken in contradiction to the rate mentioned in the list.
