Jammu: The division bench of state high court comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sanjay Gupta has directed the state to comply within two weeks regarding the preparedness of state in tackling the ever growing menace of drug abuse in the society.

The direction was passed in a public interest litigation filed by Arthav Mahajan a student of law seeking initiation of a special drive by J&K police in the entire state to check alarming use of drug amongst the youths in the state besides appropriate direction pertaining to low conviction in NDPS case.

The division bench of the high court granted two weeks time to state to comply to its earlier direction issued on April 18, 2018 whereby it directed the principal secretary to government, home department, J&K to file a status report indicating whether there is any forensic science laboratory (FSL) specifically meant for Jammu, Srinagar and Ladakh province for narcotics and if not, what are the steps taken to establish the same. It directed the state to come with a time bound stand on the next date of hearing.
