JAMMU: Taking serious view of revival of gangster culture in Jammu, the police authorities has geared it’s men and machinery for stern action against criminals associated with different gangs.

Presiding over a comprehensive meeting of police officers on this pressing issue on Thursday, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General, Jammu-Samba-Kathua, while emphasising need for extraordinary endeavours to curb the menace of gangsters has stressed upon officers to take stern action against gangsters and antisocial elements.

Directing officers to maintain the list of gangsters so that a proper surveillance can be maintained over their activities, motives and workings of the gangs for invoking PSA against them in a flawless manner, DIG JSK asserted that intelligence, linkages, patterns and all of those things need to be worked out immaculatelty so as to break their network of financial circle and seize properties which are raised by them through various unlawful activities.

Stressing the urgent need for demolition of support system which play a significant role in containing activities of unlawful elements, he exhorted officers to keep close surveillance of criminals and their associates, friends including relatives and book them under law for supporting their unlawful activities.

DIG JSK Range also directed all the officers to launch a massive drive in their jurisdiction against the vehicles found with tinted glasses, illegal modification, masking of number plate and roaming with music beyond permissible limit.

He also directed to initiate strict legal action against anyone found possessing illegal weapons, land grabbers and cases of land grabbing and extortion should be taken seriously and anyone who threatens the public should be booked under law immediately.

Emphasising prompt action to foil glorification of unlawful acts of gangsters on social media, DIG JSK has asked officers to engage meaningful civil society members who could assist the police with timely inputs for breaking network of criminals and anti social elements in society besides organise strategies for spreading awareness through seminars, public meetings and nukkad plays about nefarious designs and fate of gangsters.

JK Global News Take:  This is no more a secret that scores of gangs headed by notorious criminals and enjoying political patronage are operating in Jammu-Kathua. Unlike gangsters of pre 1990 era whose area of operation was restricted only to extortion, tenders and settling land disputes, the present day gangsters armed with sophisticated firearms are primarily involved in triangle of unlawful activities -narcotics, mining and land grabbing. Samba have become an epicenter of hardcore criminals and safe haven for one gangster who enjoys political protection and involved in triangle of unlawful activities. Affluent life style of these gangsters sans substantial financial background and means of earning don’t require rocket science to decode their working pattern and motives.
