JAMMU: Known for running a racket of fake gun licences, a notorious gun dealer alongwith his son have gone underground. Thousands of youth from districts of Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Kathua and Udhampur have also been befooled by this dealer by issuing them fake arms license and later sold them guns from his shop on fake license.

It’s learnt that in the month of July, the Reasi police have arrested 2 OGWs in Mahore which were in possession of guns on fake license. During investigation, the name of one dealer came to fore for his involvement in procurement of fake license to the arrested OGWs. Since then, both father-son duo along with their staff went underground after locking their bussiness establishment, said security agency sources.

Fake arms licence racket operates with the active connivance of officials of DM office, arms dealers and their agents who managed everything for civilians and criminals belonging to other states by masquerading them as army soldiers posted in J&K. These agents charge hefty amount ranging from 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh by offering them arms license.

Sources in police said that the gun dealer is a resident of Channi Himmat and running his shaddy bussiness from old city of Jammu. He is also facing criminal cases in this regard in court of law for his involvement in several districts of Jammu region, added sources. Even, the shop of this dealer is not running in accordance with the laid down norms of District Magistrate, Jammu.

In the wake of arrest of IAS officer Rajiv Ranjan and initiation of investigation by CBI into large scale issuance of arms licenses in J&K none of the districts in J&K is issuing gun licence but amazingly, still there is rush of buyers at shop of this notorious dealer, said an official of DC office of Jammu.

By posing the civilian belonging to other states as army personnels posted in J&K, the duo is managing arms license so as to keep flourish the bussiness of sale of guns, said sources.

This notorious gun dealer of Jammu was picked picked up many times in past by the police investigating fake arms license racket but everytime, he managed to hush up the matter against him, said one police officer.
