Jammu: Facing official apathy, the government Maulana Azad Memorial college once known for excellence in education is now fasting turning into hall of mess.
Such is the sorry state of affairs prevailing in the college that the first education minister of independent India on whose name the college own it’s identity today struggling to get respectable place on the walls of conference hall.
Similar mistreatment is being meted out to other political stalwarts of Indian polity which inspires generation for their significant role in independence of India.
The pathetic condition of conference hall vividly explained the administrative accumen of those who remained as head of this institution in recent years.
The conference hall with broken air conditioners, windows panes, chairs and distorted ceiling fans at first instant exhibit the level of debates being organised here, said Himanshu, a student of MAM college.
Pointing towards the photo frames of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, Maulana Azad, Rabindranath Tagore and Dr Rajinder Prasad, he said ” Even the photos of criminals are displayed in better way in police stations. But, the college administration deliberately add insults to these great icons of modern Indian history by placing their photo frames loaded with dust in ventilators of conference hall.
For the last three years, this college has virtually degraded to a worrisome level, said a professor of history department.
Condition of girls hostel, swimming pool, college canteen, dilapidated rotten walls, corruption in IGNOU examination, defunct auditorium and more importantly the break down of discipline in the college is a different story which only point towards the deep stinking mess prevailing in this college, said one female professor preferring anonymity.
It’s now virtually transformed into a picnic spot which is devoid of frany security from dawn to dusk, asserted another professor of history department.
