NEW DELHI: Ending 402 days long farmers protest, the Prime Minister, Narinder Modi on the occassion of Gurupurb, on Friday announced repealing all three controversial farm laws.
“We worked to provide farmers with seeds at reasonable rates and facilities like micro-irrigation, 22 crore soil health cards. Such factors have contributed to increased agricultural production. However, we failed to make them understand about the benefits of the new laws and as such, we have decided to roll them back,” Modi said.
Later in the day, he will be inaugurating key irrigation schemes in Uttar Pradesh and leaves for Jhansi to hand over locally produced military hardware to Indian armed forces on the final day of ‘Rashtra Raksha Samparpan Parv’.
The protesting farmers has declared the Modi announcement as their glorious victory which is the outcome of their long agitation and sacrifices of hundreds of farmers who lost their lives across the country in agitation demanding complete withdrawal of all controversial farm laws.
