JAMMU: Under criticism for extending succors to ghost newspapers, the Department of Information and Public Relation in UT Jammu and Kashmir have finally geared to axed those newspapers which only exist in files but invisible to general public alike famous bollywood movie “Mr India”.
Highly placed sources disclosed that 10 newspapers from Kashmir division were dis-empaneled for violation of publication norms.
Similarly, nearly 30 newspapers from Jammu Division are under scrutiny for meeting the similar fate, revealed sources.
It’s worth to mentioned here that JK Global News had carried a detailed news item regarding large scale fraud in availing advertisements worth crores every year by by several newspapers in J&K which ironically exists only in official files.
Consequent upon JKGN expose, the DIPR issued show cause notices to verify complaints against some newspapers published both in Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
The complaints were regarding the content being carried, publication issues, advertisement policies and media policy. which these newspapers were not following and more importantly the availability of newspapers.
It’s learnt that in Kashmir division there are around 18 Newspapers which came under the scrutiny and out of which 10 newspapers have been suspended and dis-empanelled by the information department.
In addition, eight newspapers have been issued notices.
Whereas, in Jammu more than 30 newspapers, some of them have been suspended and dis-empanelled and some have been issued the notices.
