JAMMU: Unpleasant ranking of Jammu in just declared Swachh Sarvekshan-2020 results has once again unveil the hollowness of tall claims of Jammu Municipal Corporation Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta who bragged to crowns it with ‘Smart City’ by fulfilling all the underline parameters of cleanliness.
With 2284.16 points, the Ministry of Urban Development has placed Jammu at 224 rank among 382 cities.
The placement of Jammu among the dirtiest city is the result of stage managed show of cleanliness claims which ostensibly visible broadly in media but astonishingly missing on ground, blamed several independent councillors.
This dismal ranking not only reflects the poor execution of sanitation related tasks but the casual approach of BJP dominated Urban Local Body towards PM most ambitious Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan in the Jammu city, said Independent Councillor Amit Gupta.
Attributing dismal ranking as the outcome of poor and visionless planning of the BJP dominated councillors and led by Mayor who is also a senior BJP leader, Independent Councillor from Gandhi Nagar Bhanu Mahajan said “How sanitation can be ensured in absence of required man power and necessary equipments”
For the past one and half year, the list of SKCs is biting dust in the JMC’s cupboard and those working on ground are either invisible or devoid of necessary equipments, she added.
Merely launching fudged sanitation drives and decorating lanes and drains in VIPs areas with lime powder it’s impossible to achieve laudable rank, said Councillor from Sunjawan Sobet Ali who is also member of the JMC’s Sanitation House Committee which is headed by BJP leader and Councillor Baldev Singh Billowaria .
Branding sanitation drive as another instrument of advertisement, Sobet Ali further added “The basic essence of advertisement is always deceptive in its real sense and the latest ranking of Jammu yet again in the dirtiest city is an indicator in this regard.”
Brooming aside all criticism, BJP leader and Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta while boosting of latest ranking said “By dint of relentless sanitation drives and several initiatives aiming at transforming Jammu as ‘Smart City’ we managed to climb 224 ranking which is far better than our previous 318th ranking.
But, the JMC’s Mayor needs to wake up from dream land and ponder on realistic plans which required on ground to bedeck Jammu with crown of ‘Smart City’, said one councillor of BJP preferring anonymity.
