JAMMU: In a major anti encroachment drive, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) on Tuesday retrieved prime land worth crores of rupees from habitual encroachers.
The citizens have appreciated the belated move of the JDA and urged the authorities to undertake such measures to retrieve more land which has been occupied by the land grabbers at several places in JDA jurisdiction in past with impunity.
The drive was jointly launched by the district administration, police and JDA in Khasra number 1193 in upper Roopnagar area of city where the members of gujjars community raised permanent structures after encroaching upon prime land worth crores since long.
In presence of heavy contingent of police and CRPF jawans, the encroached land measuring over five acres was retrieved under the supervision of Pankaj Magota, Vice Chairman, JDA.
In the five hour long drive, 17 structures raised upon the JDA land were also demolished and the retrieved land was fenced by the JDA team.
The authority have warned the land grabbers to refrain from encroaching upon land belongs to JDA else strict action against them will be initiated under relevant sections of law besides eviction.
