Established with an objective to protect interest of buyers, JKRERA have provision of heavy penalty and imprisonment upto 3 years for erring colonizers.

JAMMU : Days are tough ahead for developers of illegal colonies and unscrupulous property dealers as Jammu and Kashmir Real Estate Regulatory Authority (JKRERA) has geared its men and machinery to identify, penalise and initiate legal action against the violators.

To check  weather developers of  plotted colonies are operating within the framework of RERA, as mandated by Section 3 of the Ac, the JKRERA team on Tuesday carried extensive inspection of plotted colonies in Sehora village of Tehsil Bishnah and sought a detailed factual report along with revenue records from the revenue officials.

Expressing serious concern over the mushrooming growth of illegal colonies in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, Satish Chandra, Chairperson, JKRERA, says, “In haphazard manner colonies are sprouting everywhere in J&K UT without requisite permission from the competent authorities. Registration of projects/ colonies prior to  construction activities is compulsory to eradicate this menace”.

It is pertinent to mention here that JK Global News through series of news items in the recent past has highlighted the sprawling growth of illegal private colonies in a haphazard manner in several areas falling under the JDA and JMC jurisdiction. Reacting to the news items, the then Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Raghav Langar carried surprised inspection of illegal colonies and ordered action against the colonies as well as the concerned officials who were allegedly hand in gloves with colonizers. Consequently, the JDA identify and published the list of 51 new illegal colonies.

Further elaborating that JKRERA is commited to ensure planned development of colonies and safeguarding the interest of buyers  JKRERA Chairman, in a statement said, “Majority of these colonies are posing a significant threat to planned development as it lacks basic amenities like roads, electricity and water supply leading to stress on existing essential supplies of adjoining areas”.

Sharing email and contact numbers (jkrerachairperson@gmail.com, 9797567505, 9906216346) for assistance, complaints and grievances of stakeholders, he asserted that colonizers are bound to work within framework of RERA Act which have provisions of heavy penalty and imprisonment upto 3 years for wilfully not registering their projects and obtain necessary approval from authorities.
