JAMMU: In a major respite to the general public and especially residents, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in yet another successful anti encroachment drive on Saturday removed all the khokhas which were installed permanently along roadside in posh locality of Green Park area, Gandhi Nagar opposite J&K Housing Corporation.

The long awaited action of JMC is a big respite for us as we were fed up with the frequent jams in this area due to these habitual encroachers. Big thanks to JMC team and especially Commissioner, Ms. Avny Lavasa, avers Dr. Sunita Sharma.

The entire residents are grateful to JMC for restoring the lost pristine look of Green Belt Park area which was fast turning into fish market by Rehri mafia, she further added.

As per the reports, the joint teams of the police and the JMC lifted all the eateries and cigrette khokhas which were installed permanently along roadside and almost blocked the free movement of pedestrians and motorists on the residential colony road.

The long stretch of mini market road has virtually turned into nuisance area by these encroachers who installed cigrette shops, Tandoors and permanent Reharis along the roadside and thus making it almost impossible for the residents to move conveniently at any point of time.

The situation is horrible especially at daytime and evening, complained another resident namely Rajinder.  The worst are cigrette selling Khokhas where the anti social elements parked their vehicles haphazardously and blocked the road, he added.

While appreciating the move of JMC, a resident of the colony Amrit Khurana said “The cops deployed in the area by the police department are good for nothing. Instead of acting against these encroachers always appears friendly with them, he added.

The team of JMC was personally led by Sudhir Bali, ACR JMC and entire anti encroachment drive launched under the direction of JMC Commissioner, Avny Lavasa.

The JMC authorities has warned of strict action if any street vendors found running bussiness with temporary structures after encroaching upon roads and streets.

The JMC has said that strict action will be initiated against those who are still operating from encroached roads despite alloted space at Rehri Zone in Gandhi Nagar,
