JAMMU: Gang rape of a minor Dalit girl hailing from holy town Katra at village Janakha under the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli police station has set tempers of the agitated villagers high who alleged foul play” at the hands of police to hush up the matter at initial stage so as to “save” the culprits. Out of the two accused one is a constable in Jammu and Kashmir Police whereas the other enjoys political clout.
The place of crime- a tin shed where victim was kept in wrongful confinement for couple of days and repeatedly raped by two accused belongs to ex-sarpanch Sadiq Ali who is associated with National Conference.
As per villagers, the matter was brought into the notice of Police Station JhajjarKotli at 9 am on Monday by one Balwan Singh who noticed the victim girl roaming in sub conscious condition on a road in Janakha Panchayat in Jhajjar Kotli, said Kuldeep Sharma. But, instead of realizing the gravity of matter, the police tried its best to snub the locals seemingly under influence of a tall leader who belongs to NC.
Not only this, when the locals accompanied by victim girl approached the SDPO Nagrota-Parupkar Singh, the instant behavior of officer has left everyone aghast. The officer instead of ascertaining the gravity of matter has refused to admit it as a rape case and even threatened a youth who was vociferously demanding action against the accused involved in crime, alleged Kuldeep Sharma.
Surprisingly, in a taxi even the team from Katra Police Station also reached the Jhajjar Kotli Police station to take possession of victim girl in a missing case, which further strengthen over apprehension of hushing up the matter of rape ,complained one local.
However, with intervention of several Sarpanchs of surrounding villages, the police at Jhajjar Kotli finally registered FIR at about 8.30 PM on Monday and handed over the victim girl to officials of Child Welfare Committee for completing other formalities.
