Jammu: To check rampant menace of electricity theft and prevalence of illegal connections in Qasim Nagar, Sheikh Nagar and Bahu Fort area of ward number 47, a team of Power Development Department (PDD) under the supervision of Assistant Engineer, Division II, Vinod Sharma and led by Junior Engineer Avinash Gupta started awareness campaign apprising the residents for regularisation of their illegal connections and installed meters so as to avail uninterrupted electricity.

While appealing the residents to shun past practice of electricity theft by resorting to hooking, the team warned that strict police action will be initiated against those found involved in using electricity without authorised power connections.

The team categorically announced that it’s time to mend manners or face music as no leniency will be adopted against those causing damage to transformers by resorting to power thefts and using electricity without paying bills.

Elaborating the residents about frequent cause of non availability of electricity in area, the team stated that large scale power theft and its reckless use puts excess load on transformers causing damage to it.

The team further enlightened the residents that laying of new cables has almost accomplished in the area and hence only those with legitimate connections would able to get electricity as the new cables cannot be tempered with illegal hooks.

The PDD team also requested people to clear their outstanding electricity bills as the failure of same would results in disconnection of power.

The law abiding citizens of the area have appreciated the initiative of the PDD and urged the higher ups to initiate illegal connections and meter verification drive so as to streamline power supply in the area.
