JAMMU: Professional instinct is still badly missing among large section of men in uniform despite the fact that on several occasions the Lieutenant Governor; Manoj Sinha has pulled the rank and files in Jammu and Kashmir Police advising them to perform duty with professional acumen.
The inability of Sub Inspector Abhay Rana, who was chosen by senior officers to head the prime post of Police Post incharge, Narwal, to execute the Court order pertaining to stay on operation of newly opened Star Calibration Plant has raised eye brows over the working pattern of young police officer at the beginning of his career.
Aggrieved with the highhandedness of officials of Department of Legal Metrology posted in Jammu, the owner of JK Calibration Plant Ashok Gupta knocked the door of court for restraining the operation of newly opened Star Calibration Plant at Narwal.
The Court of Special Mobile Magistrate, Passenger Tax and Shops Establishment Act, Jammu while passing order dated 20th Sep, 2021 directed the Police Post Incharge Narwal for implementation of earlier court order in letter and spirit dated Sep 8th, 2021 which failed to execute as the defendant namely Sardar Santokh Singh son of Balwant Singh r/o H.No 264, Old Rehari, Jammu and his family members refused to accept the court order.
The grapevine however, is that even the Police Post Incharge Abhay Rana till date not able to implement the court order. Thus, allowing running of Star Calibration Plant as per the desired wishes of the owner as well as some officers of Legal Metrology Dept.
“Empowered with necessary power, Police is bound to implement court orders and if they too start playing tactfully over it then it reflects serious flaws in authority, ability and acumen of police officer entrusted with the task” said a an aggrieved oil tanker driver.
Either its sheer inefficiency of police officer or the influence of owner of Star Calibration Plant as well as one officer of Legal Metrology department who allegedly facilitate its opening when the aggrieved Ashok Gupta refuses to meet monetary demands of concerned official posted in Narwal located LMD office.
Its worth to mentioned here that JK Global News has carried a sting operation wherein an official of Legal Metrology Department namely Yougal Kishore posted in the office of Assistant/Deputy Controller was demanding/accepting bribe amount from aggrieved Ashok Gupta of JK Calibration Plant on behalf of one officer of LMD.
For the past sometimes, the owner of JK calibration Plant was regularly being threatened with opening of another Calibration Plant by one officer of LMD posted in Narwal in case the former failed to meet his illegitimate demands of Rs 450 per vehicle as bribe for referring the oil tankers to his calibration plant.
When the owner of JK Calibration Plant refused to succumb to pressure tactics, the officer of LMD allegedly in connivance with his father in law, a transporter devised a plan for opening of new calibration plant at Narwal by fielding his proxy, alleged LMD sources, adding “The concerned officer of LMD allegedly also greased the palm of his superiors in the department at the behest of one former Controller of Legal Metrology Department. Else why senior officers in LMD prefer to remain silent on the mess created by the concerned officer”
The JKGN team also visited the Narwal located Star Calibration Plant and found it was working.
Clarifying on the issue, Sub Inspector Abhay Rana said “In execution of stay order, the court asserted us to refrain from harassing anybody” Still, we are on job and hopefully the stay order on operation of Star Calibration Plant would implement in letter and spirit as desired by the court”
