NEW YORK: Author Salman Rushdie on Friday was stated on the stage at an event held in New York where he was about to give a lecture. The author whose controversial writing Satanic Verses led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, was attacked as he was about to give a lecture in western New York.
“The assailant ran up onto the stage and stabbed Rushdie 10 to 15 times as and an interviewer.
The 75-year-old author was pushed or fell to the floor, and the man was arrested.
Rushdie suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck, and was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. His condition is not yet known,” the New York State police said in a statement, media reported.
