Jammu: Moving softly against the accused for death of a young house wife, the Jammu police after two and half month long investigation have finally registered a case against officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police namely Inspector Vivek Basson u/s 304 and 498 A of RPC.
Interestingly, the police have yet to arrest Inspector Vivek against whom the parents of deceased victim has leveled serious allegations of murder from day one when Neha was shot dead due to bullet fired from the service pistol of alleged accused Vivek.
On February 26, Nehas Basson wife Inspector Vivek Basson had died of bullet injury in head which was fired from the service pistol of Vivek at her residence in Exchange Road.
Taking cognizance of death, SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta immediately has ordered inquest proceedings u/s 174 CrPC to unveil the mystery behind death.
The officer has been booked for causing death of his spouse namely Neha Basson under culpable homicide not amounting to murder besides dowry law. The inquest proceedings has been converted to FIR No 85 u/s 304 B and 498 A.
Though police has been justifying delay in registration of FIR against the alleged accused on the grounds that the investigation team was corroborating evidence on the basis of the reports furnished by Ballistic experts, FSL and doctors so as to prevent even minute of escaping route for the accused in the court of law.
However, eyebrows are being raised about the way alleged accused has been treated softly by the police authorities. “Inferred evidences collected from crime spot clearly shows that it’s a plain murder case” opined a police officer. The bullet was hit in the left side of deceased Neha’s head whereas she was not a lefty and how a housewife learned to unlock and cock a pistol, questioned a police officer preferring anonymity. The accused is being protected, he added.
On being contacted, Vivek Gupta, SSP Jammu confirme registration of FIR u/s 304 B, 498 A against Inspector Vivek Basson. On being asked as to what remains behind booking the alleged accused for offence under culpable homicide not amounting to murder instead of u/s 302 besides delay in arrest, he said “Our investigation is foolproof and accused will not be let off in court of law”. The accused is well within our radar and will be arrested, added Gupta.
