JAMMU : Under the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Umesh Rai, the Jammu University seems to have developed penchant for controversies. Already in eyes of storm over the mysterious death of a Professor in the premises of PG department of Psychology last month, the varsity administration on Sunday faced a major embarrassment when it distribute already held question papers to candidates appearing for 3rd semester exam of Master Degree in Urdu.
Irked over the negligent behavior of Controller of Examination (CoE) , the agitated students while demanding action against those responsible for this exam fiasco held massive protest demonstration and raised slogans against the Jammu University authorities.
Examinees who are pursuing MA (Urdu) through JU’s Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) were present to take paper 303 of semester III exams on Sunday. However, as soon as question papers were distributed, there were uproar in the examination halls as the examination authority distributes question paper 304 which was already taken by JU few days ago.
Our session is already delayed and after postponed this paper for nearly 20 days, the varsity created chaos and incurred inconvenience to us by exhibiting its worst level of inefficiency in conduct of examination, said annoyed students.
“The CoE need to keep his house in order and plug all the loopholes. The act of carelessness on their part caused inconvenience to hundred of students who came all the way from far flung areas of Jammu division” rued agitating students. Officials responsible for such glitches should be penalised and debarred from examination tasks, added protesting students.
Efforts to seek official view of varsity fails to fructify as neither JU’s spokesperson nor CoE Sanjeev Mahajan were available for clarification on the issue.
JK Global News View: The Jammu University need to discontinue its old tradition of shielding the wrong doers with official amnesty and need to get their act in place and plug all the loopholes. The conduct of examination is a crucial exercise which reflects the internal quality of any varsity functioning. Principal Secretary HED, Rohit Kansal have set lofty ambition to see 2022 -Year of Academic Excellence for Higher Education in J&K UT and such fiasco could play spoil sports and further rot the already dented image of JU. It is the job of CoE to monitor question papers thoroughly before sending these to examination centres and must own responsibility with dignity for mess instead of running away from ailing examination system of JU.
