A section of the media recently came under criticism and draw heated discussion in social media groups for publishing misleading reports on the Supreme Court’s directions relating to the ongoing election process of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
A news portal-the Bar Bulletin, followed by an local TV channel-Gulistan News and a leading english newspaper, carried stories suggesting that the apex court had put a complete halt to the JKCA elections, triggering widespread confusion among stakeholders.

However, a careful reading of the court’s order revealed that the Supreme Court had stayed the election, but had only placed a temporary restriction on the announcement of results, pending further examination of issues raised in a related petition.

Legal observers pointed out that the election process itself was allowed to continue, contrary to the impression created by the reports.

The inaccurate portrayal of the court’s direction drew sharp reactions on social media and from legal circles, prompting questions about due diligence and responsible reporting. Amid mounting criticism, the concerned news portal quietly removed the report from its website, further fuelling debate over the credibility of the initial claims.

The episode has once again highlighted the need for greater care while reporting on judicial proceedings, particularly in matters involving sensitive institutional processes, where distorted information can mislead the public and undermine trust in both the media and the legal system.

Pertinent to mention here that the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association has registered a marked turnaround under the leadership of Brigadier Anil Gupta, with improved governance, smoother conduct of domestic tournaments and enhanced player development. Transparent administration and disciplined management have helped restore credibility and deliver consistently strong on-field performances.
