KYIV: A renewed US-led diplomatic push to end the Russia-Ukraine war gained momentum on Sunday as US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Their visit followed more than three hours of discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday, described by both sides as substantive and constructive, though no breakthrough was announced.
The US delegation is carrying proposals from the Trump administration aimed at reviving stalled peace negotiations. Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready for substantive dialogue but stressed the need for security guarantees and a dignified post-war settlement.
Russia has not publicly softened its core demands, particularly over territory and Ukraine’s future NATO alignment. A limited pause in strikes on Kyiv was also agreed during the diplomatic mission, but no wider ceasefire has been reached.
