A #migrant worker is a person who either migrates within their home country or outside it to pursue work. Migrant workers usually do not have the intention to stay permanently in the country or region in which they work.
After 60 days of nationwide lockdown this migrant are moneyless homeless and the only requirement for them is to return home.
There are various initiative which GoI had started but all of them had failed drastically.Whether you see the registration process of Shramik Train or giving free ration to these labour.
One survey in May found that almost 8 out of 10 migrant labourers had not been paid at all during the lockdown.News reports tell you how these migrants haven’t had money to recharge their phones and talk to family back home, or money even to buy tickets once the government started special trains. Many countriesare shelling out money for workers. Some have been directly giving money or rebates to companies, unemployment allowance or direct benefit transfers. And not just rich Western countries. Even a developing country like Brazil is giving informal workers $120 a month. Narendra Modi is putting a princely sum of Rs 500 in Jan Dhan accounts — a baksheesh of $6.6.
The Supreme Court on Friday said it was impossible for anyone to stop migrant workers from walking back to their homes and refused to direct the government to give them shelter or free transportation.
You created panic. You sent the country into complete chaos with millions on the highway. We could have easily converted the marriage halls, schools and colleges and community centres that were shut down into shelter homes for migrants and homeless. We declared star hotels into quarantine centres for people returning from abroad.
Still there is no relief and labour are still walking on the highway. There are many stories which gets buried and no one is going to remove this stories as it will be very painful for others to hear these story.
‘Unless our hands go hand in hand with our heads, we will be able to do nothing whatsoever. Every labourer is worthy of his hire.’– Mahatma Gandhi
