In a stern warning to wilful offenders, the Jammu (Rural) Police has initiated strict action against two-wheeler riders found concealing number plates with adhesive tape to evade traffic challans.
To curb this unlawful practice, a motorcycle with its registration number deliberately masked with tape was noticed by a team of Police while traveling towards Ban Toll from Jammu, says press statement issued by the Police on social media account. The naka personnel at Ban Toll were immediately alerted subsequently led to the seizure of bike.
The rider, operating a motorcycle bearing registration number *JK02DP 1734, was fined ₹5,500* under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act by the Traffic Police, says the police statement on its facebook account.
Asserting that concealing, tampering with, or modifying number plates to avoid challans can attract heavy fines, legal action, and even seizure of vehicle, the Jammu Police have urged the general public especially parents to counsel their wards against indulging in such unlawful adventure.
