Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday evening said that she had vacated both official residents and had shifted to a private home in Lucknow.
Addressing a press conference, Mayawati said, “The remaining portion of 13-A Mall Avenue belonged to Manyawar Kanshi Ram Memorial Museum and Guest House. The Estate department had sent me a wrong notice mentioning entire 13-A Mall Avenue bungalow as my official residence,” she clarified.
She also took media to 13-A Mall Avenue showing Kanshi Ram Memorial Museum and Guest House. “My and memories of entire dalit sama are attached with this building where Manyawar Kanshi Ram used to stay. After his death it was converted into a museum and guest house,” she told media
Earlier on Saturday, the Uttar Pradesh Estate department said it would issue fresh notices to Mayawati and ND Tiwari if they did not vacate their government bungalows after the 15-day deadline, which ends on Saturday night.
Although Mayawati has shifted to her new house at 9 Mall Avenue, she is yet to handover possession of 13-A Mall Avenue residence, which was officially allotted to her when she was the Chief Minister, to the Estate department. Instead, she had handed over keys of 6, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg bungalow to the Estate department saying that it was allotted to her as ex CM.
The Supreme Court had passed the order on May 7 and the two-month deadline to get government bungalows vacated from ex CMs ends July 6. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh have already vacated their 4, Kalidas Marg and 3-Mall Avenue bungalows.
The Estate department has ordered a probe as to how Mayawati was allotted two government accommodations as ex-CMs. Initial probe suggested that she was fraudulently allotted 6-Lal Bahadur Shahsti Marg residence on December 23 2011 through a fake dispatch number 7183/32-2-2011-10/2008. Rekha, an employee of the department was allotted a house through this dispatch number
