Kept in dark about absence of secrecy in examination of Cluster University of Jammu, the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bechan Lal confidently claims that answer sheets were evaluated following due process of coding and decoding.
JAMMU: Lackadaisical approach in conduct of examinations and evaluation of answer sheets sans secrecy shows degrading sanctity of Controller of Examination (CoE) wing in Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ).
There is no coding and decoding of answer sheets by CLUJ which have turned crucial process of assessment of academics into farce besides promoting nepotism and corruption, blamed teachers of GCW Gandhi Nagar. Government SPMR Commerce College is a glaring example of this sham evaluation system which becomes a money minting exercise for some unscrupulous contractual teachers, alleged college insiders.
Such is the situation that using personal clouts, anyone can successfully accomplished graduate or post graduate programme in CLUJ without writing anything on answer sheets, said one teacher in a taunted manner.
It is the job of the CoE to ensure that answer sheets reached well in time in the varsity campus after conduct of examination in the constituent colleges. Thereafter, begins distribution of answer sheets to teachers for evaluation after following due process of coding.
Flaunting answer scripts, a teacher of GGM Science College said “As a new norm, the CLUJ after conduct of examinations sealed answer sheets in bags and dumped it in the same college. Then these are evaluated by same teachers of the college without coding”. This is a mockery of examination, he added.
Further, referring to the deep mess prevailing in conduct of examination and declaration of results by CLUJ, a teacher preferring anonymity said, “In the month of March, paper leakage incident was brought into the notice of CoE immediately at the start of examination.
However, no seriousness was shown by the CoE and instead of visiting the centre and order cancellation of examination, the paper was allowed to complete.
The CLUJ also achieve distinction in sending question papers through medium of whatsapp and sometimes even the xerox copies of question papers set by the teachers which reflects murky affairs prevailing in CoE wing of CLUJ.
From conduct of examination to evaluation and tabulation of marks, everything is managed by the teachers of constituent colleges. Despite all this, the CoE have developed penchant for prolong delay in distribution of marks cards thus blocking prospectus of many students for admission in universities across the country, reveals another teacher.
The result of 6th semester was declared in first week of September. Surprisingly, yet the authorities has not initiated printing of marks card citing error in software. The software company which has been assigned this crucial task is allegedly owned by a relative of one CLUJ officer
The CLUJ charge hefty admission fees which also includes a component of examination but still the CoE neither use these funds for coding and decoding exercise nor provide remuneration to teachers engaged in examination and evaluation exercise.
Majority of teachers of CLUJ asserted that prevailing mess in examination and evaluation is manmade and it’s getting bad to worst due to alleged callous approach of incumbent CoE and mainly because of failure of CLUJ authorities to appoint permanent CoE despite lapse of seven years.
Repeated attempts to contact the CoE, Rajinder Sharma failed as he prefers to evade response on dismal scenario of examination and evaluation in CLUJ.

Prevalence of this undesired practice in Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) is playing havoc in higher education besides promoting corruption and nepotism. CLUJ is not a leisure centre for coterie of influential persons and LG administration must rise to the occasion and eradicate the stinking affairs prevailing in CLUJ.
