Jammu: Fifteen cops of Jammu and Kashmir Police which is playing crucial role in enforcing lockdown amidst Coronavirus pandemic have been reportedly put under self quarantine for being in contact with corona virus positivepersons.
Majority of those put under self quarantine belongs to the component cell (SOG) of the JKP.
These include one DSP, three Inspectors, one sub inspector and rest are lower rung officials, said sources.
Reliable sources revealed that six persons having affiliation with Tabhlighi Jamat were called in cyber cell of SOG at Gandhi Nagar few days back for ‘tracing their contact history in an effort to contain the spread of covid 19’.
These Jamaat members were under self quarantine in a Masjid at Bhathindi area which has been flagged as red zone by the state administration few days ago.
These were transported to the cyber cell at Gandhi Nagar by Police Post Incharge Bhathindi from where they were taken back to their self quarantine destination after extracting ‘necessary information’, revealed sources.
Later, two out of six tabhlighi were tested positive for covid 19 leading to the self quarantine of 15 police personnels on account of their contact history with infected.
Primarily the component unit of Jammu Kashmir Police deals with militancy related tasks in a high tech way but there is silent annoyance in the cyber cell over the handling of covid 19 ‘suspects’ which can easily be managed at police station level in Bathindi, said sources.
It’s a fatal disease and the authorities should provide all necessary gears to the concerned police officers who are actively engaged in such crucial tasks, asserts sources.
JKGN made attempts to contact SSP Jammu to ascertain his view on this development but he could not be available due to unavoidable circumstances.
